Chandigarh, December 17

Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra Singh has accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of putting matters of national security at risk for small political benefits.

Addressing a press conference, he said a campaign to propagate misinformation, which was being held by the Congress, led by its president Rahul Gandhi, on the Rafale deal, had been exposed after the Supreme Court verdict.

He said matters of national security should never be a topic of public debate. By making Rafale deal a topic of discussion in public, the Congress put the matters of India’s security at risk. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formidable leadership had frustrated the Congress and its leaders were levelling inaccurate, baseless and illogical accusations against the government.

He asked why the Congress ran away from debate on the Rafale deal in Parliament?

The minister further said the Congress filed four petitions in the Supreme Court regarding the matter, alleging irregularities on three issues – pricing, procedure and offset partner. The Supreme Court, after hearing and scrutinising the documents, set aside all petitions.

The court noted that all set standards and procedures were followed by the government. The Supreme Court upheld that the procurement procedure carried out was independent, transparent with no scope or solid basis to doubt this agreement vindicating the government of all charges of irregularities in the deal.

He said the verdict exposed the disgraceful act of the Congress to malign the image of the country, its government and the armed forces for sake of political benefits.

The minister said now that the Supreme Court had affirmed that there were no irregularities in the Rafale deal, shouldn’t the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi apologise to the people of the country for making false accusations on the government and its armed forces.

City BJP chief Sanjay Tandon was present on the occasion.
