It was the occasion for the devout of the region to feast on occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr after 30 days of fasting (rozas) on Saturday.

Muslims distributed ‘seviyaan’ and sweetened rice among their relatives and friends, including Hindus and Sikhs, after accomplishing obligatory ‘Zakat’, ‘Fitrah’, ‘Eidee’ and offering prayers at idgahs on Dehliz Road, besides in Rohira, Kanganwal, Baurhai, Kup, Brahampur and Kilaraipur villages.

Devotees offered prayers outside mosques in the town and surrounding localities.

Eid Milan programmes were also organised in which people from all walks of life congratulated their Muslim brethren. Leaders of various political parties greeted Muslims on the occasion.

Wearing new clothes and caps, men and children from Muslim families gathered at mosques located in various localities of the region falling in Ludhiana and Sangrur districts on Saturday morning.

Before offering prayers at mosques and idgahs members of the Muslim community gave alms to the poor and ‘Eedee’ to children.

Muftis addressed gatherings at various places and asserted that Eid reaffirmed the belief of sacrifice among human beings following Islam. They said Islam preached peace and brotherhood among different communities and condemned certain vested interests, who were trying to identify the religion with violence and terrorism.
