Mumbai college wins moot court contest

Balasaheb Aapte College of Law, Mumbai, emerged winner while Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, finished as runners up in the 9th edition of Checkmate 2019, AIL National Moot Court Competition, held at Army Institute of Law here.

Apart from trophy, the winning team also pocketed a cash prize of Rs 50,000 whereas the runners-up team received a cash prize of Rs 35,000.

Today, the valedictory ceremony of this three-day competition was presided over by Justice Mahesh Grover, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, while Atul Nanda, Advocate General, Punjab, was the guest of honour.

Earlier, around 30 teams from national law colleges and universities of the country participated in the competition.

Dr Tejinder Kaur, principal, AIL, highlighted the institute’s achievements over the years.

The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony and presentation of mementoes by chairman Maj Gen ML Aswal.

Winners (trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000): Balasaheb Aapte College of Law, Mumbai

Runners-up (cash prize of Rs 35,000): Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad

Third best team (cash prize of Rs 10,000): Christ University, Bengaluru

Fourth best team (cash prize of Rs 5,000): Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow

The Best Memorial Award (cash prize of Rs 25,000): UILS, Punjab University, Chandigarh

2nd Best Memorial Award (cash prize of Rs 15,000): Gujarat National Law University

Knight of the Checkmate (cash prize of Rs 15,000): Divya Mann from Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow

2nd Best Advocate (cash prize of Rs 10,000): Shikhar Yadav from Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow
