Bathinda, December 14

Members of the Sanjha Mulazam Manch (Punjab and UT) staged a protest demanding hike in their salaries.

Taking a strong view of the proposed hike in the salaries of MLAs in the state, employees from different government departments criticised the move of the state government.

Megh Singh Sidhu, convener of the mach, said, “Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal was giving the old excuse of empty treasury. However, the state government is proposing to increases the salaries of MLAs.”

Sidhu added, “There are outstanding dues of DA and other allowances. The employees are financially burdened with development tax and mandatory dope test. The government did not set aside funds for recruitment.”

The protesters demanded that the old pension scheme must be reinstated, new recruitment be made, outstanding DA should be cleared and jobs of contractual employees be regularised. — TNS
