Kharar, January 18

The construction of the Mohali-Kharar flyover may further delay as the L&T company, tasked with its construction, has threatened to stop work on March 1, if the administration failed to hand over the required land to it by February 28.

According to information, the firm has told the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that they have been suffering losses to the tune of Rs 7-8 lakh per day due to the non-acquisition of the required land.

This information was given by Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu after attending a meeting regarding the project here today.

Krishan Sachdeva, project director, NHAI; TB Singh, project director, L&T; and Pulak Saha, administrator, L&T, were present at the meeting.

Sandhu was told that the delay was caused due to the non-payment of compensation to owners around 320 properties that are required to be acquired for the project.

For 252 properties, the administration has not even declared the award. After the announcement of the award, the compensation against these properties will be released by the Centre.

The construction work, which supposed to be completed by December 5, 2018, is still halfway. Service roads on both sides of the flyover are yet to be constructed.

Sandhu said he would write to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh about the project and would demand the appointment of an SDM to oversee its work.
