Mohali cops grill UP don Ansari in extortion case

The police today brought don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari on production warrant from Uttar Pradesh in connection with an extortion case.

According to sources, the five-time BSP MLA from Mau had allegedly called up a local realtor and demanded Rs 10 crore. A case under Sections 386 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered at the Mataur police station.

“The police have brought Ansari from Banda Jail,” said a police official. The police produced Ansari in a local court, which remanded him in two-day police custody.

SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said: “His interrogation is on. We are also looking at his involvement in some other case registered in our area.” — TNS
