The Excise and Taxation Department today imposed a fine of Rs 10.48 lakh on Orbit Resorts, comprising a multiplex, hotel and a restaurant, for allegedly evading excise duty on liquor/beer served to the customers in its bar-cum-restaurant.

Excise and Taxation Officer Piara Singh said: “I have issued the orders, which will be sent to the owners of the resort by tomorrow.”

A raid was conducted on Orbit Resorts in the second week of October following a tip-off regarding alleged evasion of GST in the cinema hall and room bookings and evasion of VAT/excise duty on liquor and food served in the bar.

An investigation pertaining to the evasion of GST is pending. “There could be a possibility of evasion of GST applicable on tickets sold in the cinema halls of Orbit Resorts,” said a senior official.
