Jammu, December 12

Ramp walk by models added a modern look to the ongoing silk exhibition, where small weavers from across the country and the state are showcasing their works.

The 10-day exhibition, one of the biggest in J&K in recent years, has received overwhelming response in the city of temples. In all, 12 models wearing traditional silk dresses walked the ramp, highlighting the skills of weavers from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Kashmiri designs, especially Kani work-based silk sarees, suits, shifan and pashmina are also on display at the exhibition.

“It’s quite interesting. Models wearing sarees and suits walked the ramp, adding colours to the beauty of silk clothes,” said Sarika Sharma, a university student.

Organiser of the exhibition T Abhinand said the purpose of the exhibition was to highlight the skills of Indian weavers, who also walked the ramp and made the visitors aware of difficulties and challenges in making the silk sarees.
