New Delhi, October 15

Two incidents of gangrape have once again questioned the Delhi Police's claims over the law and order situation in the city. People living in Delhi are questioning the police: is Delhi safe for women?

A 16-year-old girl was raped in Kalyanpuri on Friday by four men.

DCP Pankaj Kumar Singh said the class 10 student of a government school was allegedly raped by four men, including the son of her landlord. The landlord's son offered to buy a pizza to lure the girl and took her to a room, where three of his friends also joined him. They were under the influence of alcohol which was confirmed after medical test.

When the girl's mother returned from work, the victim narrated her ordeal to her, who took her to the police station, the DCP said.

A case was registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences and the IPC. The accused were arrested on the same day.

The landlord's son is aged 28 and is married. One of the accused is a 19-year-old, who washes cars for living. Two of the accused are in their 30s, said another police officer.

As per the data compiled by the Delhi Police, over two children were daily raped in the national capital in the first four months of 2018. Till April 30, 282 cases of child rape were reported as opposed to 278 last year. In 2017, 894 such cases were reported in Delhi.

Two held for gangrape

In another incident of a gangrape, DCP Devender Arya said, Birju (25) and his accomplice Vinod Kumar (31), both residents of Rangpuri Pahari, have been arrested. The woman working for a multinational company at Dwarka was gangraped allegedly by two of her colleagues on Saturday. During office hours on October 13, both took her to the store room in the office and raped her, the DCP said.

While the claims that the woman was offered to drop home after office hours on Saturday and during the ride, the men allegedly served her a soft drink laced with sedatives and she fell unconscious, are baseless, confirmed DCP Arya.

"We have conducted medical examination of the victim which confirms rape. The accused have been arrested  the same day the complaint was registered," he added.
