State Education Minister OP Soni would preside over the district-level function to administer oath to newly elected sarpanches and panches, being organised on Friday at the New Grain Market in Nakodar.

Divulging details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Jitendra Jorwal said the function would start at 10 am during which the Education Minister would administer the oath of office to the sarpanches and panches.

Jorwal said elaborate arrangements would be made for the event so that around 7,000 newly elected representatives take the oath properly.

The ADC (D) today held a meeting at the venue of the function to oversee the preparedness of the event. The function would be simple but an impressive one in which several other dignitaries, including MPs, MLAs and officers of the district administration would take part.

He said the sarpanches and panches would be seated block-wise and it would be duty of the BDPOs and panchayat secretaries concerned to assure that the sarpanches and panches were seated in a proper manner.

Jorwal said besides, separate parking spaces would be earmarked for dignitaries, officers, sarpanches and panches.

He said various officers had been assigned duties for the smooth conduct of the event, adding that the officers had been directed to make sure that their staff perform their duty diligently for the smooth conduct of the event. He said any sort of callousness on part of the officials in performing the duty would be dealt sternly.

Superintendent of Police Balkar Singh, SDMs Paramvir Singh, Amit Kumar Panchal, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Sanjiv Sharma and Navneet Kaur Bal, Deputy Superintendent of Police Parminder Singh, District Food and Supply Controller TS Chopra, District Mandi Officer Varinder Khera, Tehsildars Aaditya Gupta, KS Bhullar and Inderdev Singh Minhas were among those others present.
