Minister distributes artificial limbs, accessories among divyangs

HOSHIARPUR: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla said the Union Government was committed to provide every facility to divyangs (persons with disability).

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla said the Union Government was committed to provide every facility to divyangs (persons with disability).

He said: “It is government’s endeavour that none of the divyangs remain deprived of the facilities provided by the government, for which special events are being organised from time to time.”

He was addressing the function organised today to present free prosthetic limbs and accessories to divyangs.

The programme was organised at DAV Senior Secondary School to provide artificial limbs under the ADIP scheme with the support of ALIMCO under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

During the programme, 371 beneficiaries were given 756 machines and equipment, which costs Rs 28.13 crore.

Sampla said the Union Government had benefited over 14 lakh beneficiaries through different camps. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is not only taking care of divyangs but also of the elderly and they are being provided required equipments.

In today’s programme he provided various accessories and equipment including Four smart canes, 2 Braille-10 slates and one Braille kit for visually impaired, six motorised tricycles, 13 tricycles, 71 wheelchairs, 10 CP chairs, 36 crutches, 10 walkers and 301 hearing aids for children with special needs, elderly and hearing impaired. Artificial limbs and callipers were also given to the beneficiaries .

Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia said: “For the convenience of divyangs, many steps are being taken by the district administration. Special camps have been organised at the Civil Hospitals of different sub-divisions on every Thursday, in order to resolve the problems being faced by the divyangs.
