The district administration organised a mini-marathon to start a ‘Spark’, career guidance mela’ here today.
Flagging off the marathon, that commenced from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium and culminated at the same venue after passing through Chunmun Chowk, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and Milk Bar Chowk, Varinder Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jalandhar, said aim behind organiging the event was to disseminate the message of healthy and drug-free Punjab.
The DC said the youth needs to be sensitised against the menace of drugs, for which the mini-marathon would play a key role, adding that apart from grooming career of the students, the mela also aims at promoting the health of students.
He said the fest, to be held at the precincts of the Guru Gobind Stadium on December 18 and 19, would also ensure holistic development of the overall personality of the students, for which sporting, cultural and other events by the students have been carefully amalgamated in the programme.
The DC said the administration had already made elaborate arrangements to ensure that students do not face any sort of problem, adding that stalls would be installed by various educational institutions.
In the mini-marathon hundreds of the students took part. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh; Sub Divisional Magistrate Paramveer Singh; District Guidance Counsellor Surjit Lal; Director RUDSET Jagdish Kumar; district Coaches Umesh Sharma and Harjinder Singh, among others, were also present.
