Chandigarh, October 8

Pointing out various loopholes in the ongoing railway underbridge (RUB) project here, the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, has written to the Chief Engineer, UT, to expedite the work.

Colonel Gursewak Singh (Retd), President, RWA, pointed out that the road starting from the RUB to the Duplex Housing Complex must be bifurcated as it was too narrow. The only way out would be to sufficiently increase the width of the road. The space created between the parallel retaining walls gets flooded when it rains. One obvious remedy will be to fill the empty space with loose earth and plant shrubs over it. “This project has been in the news mostly for wrong reasons —deep digging without a retaining wall which endangered the adjacent multi-storey buildings and a newly laid water pipe got damaged. There has been an inordinate delay in the completion of the RUB project,” he commented.

“All this is causing inconvenience to thousands of MHC residents,” stated Col Singh. — TNS
