Met issues ‘yellow’ weather warning for state

SHIMLA: The Met Department has issued the ‘yellow’ weather warning for heavy snowfall, rain, hailstorm and thunderstorm in the state from Monday onwards.

The Met Department has issued the ‘yellow’ weather warning for heavy snowfall, rain, hailstorm and thunderstorm in the state from Monday onwards.

Snowfall and heavy rain may occur at some places in the higher hills and hailstorm/ thunderstorm in the middle, lower hills and plains of the state on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the Met said.

The Met issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause “damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life.” Yellow is the least dangerous among the weather warnings. Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state at minus 11 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The maximum temperature in in Una was 19 degrees Celsius. — PTI

Avalanche Alert in Chamba

  • The Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Manali, issued an avalanche warning and advisory in Chamba district for Monday.
  • Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena said the Chhau-Phindru-Thamoh-Killar, Killar-Ghangit-Barwas, Killar-Gahar-Dunei-Pangi tracks in the Pangi valley, the Gahar-Dunei-Trakar, Kalaban-Trakar-Ranikot track in Chamba and the Hadsar-Ghoi track to Manimahesh (Mahoun) in Bharmour were unsafe.  
  • Meanwhile, efforts are on to restore roads, power and water supply in the snowbound areas of the district.
