Men spend more on grooming in city

JALANDHAR: Owing to rising aspiration among men to look better and the boost in the grooming industry, grooming market for men in the city is sprouting rapidly.

Owing to rising aspiration among men to look better and the boost in the grooming industry, grooming market for men in the city is sprouting rapidly. Men in the age group of 25 to 45 years have surpassed women in spending money on grooming and personal care products. Salons, in posh areas, are earning over Rs 60 lakh to Rs 70 lakh per month.

Besides, men in smaller towns are displaying desire for grooming, especially in the whitening and fairness segments. Every new salon in the city is opening with unisex services.

As per The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) report, the male grooming industry currently stands at Rs 16,800 crore in the country and it is expected to expand promptly as every man wants to be featured in good books of their peers.

Amrita, working as a manager at Looks Salon, here, said: “Gone are the days when makeovers were associated with woman only, now men also take interest in personal care and good looks.”

“If they earn a monthly whopping Rs 70 lakh Rs 80 lakh through woman grooming services, men grooming also contribute to Rs 60 lakh to Rs 70 lakh. During the wedding season, the services sometimes double,” she added.

Amrita said: “Besides facial, hair-do, spa, manicure and pedicure, various kinds of blushes that woman generally use are also preferred by men.”

Ashok at S2 Salon said: “Though various grooming kits have been released in the market, he sometimes uses same products for men and women.”

Amit, director, Amit Makeovers said: “Nowadays, it’s a common fact that likewise women, men have also started to pamper themselves. Their services ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 4,000. For weddings, the basic groom package that includes, facial, manicure, pedicure, hair and spa and beard setting, cost Rs 3,500, and men prefer to avail the complete package to enhance their looks.”

“Men are becoming aware of the latest trends and concerns surrounding one’s physical appearance. The beauty salon and spa for men, grooming will boom in the coming years,” he added.
