Statusbrew and City On Pedals organised the meet. It was called “MeetupThursdays” and saw people share their expertise and work. One of the participants Samridhi Aneja shared her knowledge on essential aesthetics in Graphic Design with the community members. Rishab Mahajan, director of Statusbrew and co-founder of City on Pedals, said, “This is a group where people come under one roof and share their thoughts.” TNS

Police party attacked 

Tarn Taran: A police team from police station, Valtoha village, was attacked in the village, 45 km from here, on Wednesday. Constable Viraj Singh  was injured in the attack. Four members of a family and an unknown person have been booked under Sections 307, 353, 323, 186, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC by the police. The police said four of the suspects had been identified as Pritpal Singh, his brother Gursahib Singh, wife Amandeep Kaur and mother Sarabjit Kaur. The police party, led by ASI Satnam Singh, had gone to the residence of Gursahib Singh to search for drugs when the suspects attacked the police during which constable Viraj Singh was injured. He had been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Khemkaran. The accused managed to escape from the spot, the police said. OC

Pensioners get Rs 9.2 crore 

Tarn Taran: The  administration has disbursed an amount of Rs 9.20 crore in the form of pensions for the month of August under various social security schemes being run by the government. This was disclosed on Thursday by Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Sabarwal at a meeting to review  progress of social security schemes. The DC said the benefits for the months of September and October were also being disbursed and the work would be completed soon.  Beneficiaries were being paid Rs 750 per month in their bank accounts. Sabarwal said a Rs 6,51,53,250 had been disbursed to 86,871 beneficiaries of old-age pension, followed by Rs 1,46,44,250 to 19,526 beneficiaries of widow pension. The administration had also disbursed Rs 69,66,750 to persons with special needs and Rs 52,41,750 to dependent children, he said. OC

MC ultimatum to tax defaulters

Amritsar: The MC gave an ultimatum to defaulters, who purchased the properties but did not deposit their dues. The decision was taken in a  meeting of the estate wing subcommittee presided over by Chairman Dalbir Singh Mamanke. He said the action would be taken against the property tax defaulters. Mamanke said defaulters should clear their dues otherwise they have to vacate the properties. TNS
