The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has made a plan to upgrade the Rose Garden at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

Ten proposals, which were approved at the General House meeting held recently, regarding the upgrade of the Rose Garden are: beautification of the Rose Garden at a cost of Rs 16.64 lakh, fixing of pop up system and benches for Rs 24.80 lakh, installation of fountain at a cost of Rs 24.50 lakh, senior citizen home room for Rs 18 lakh, public toilet at Rs 11.35, development of canteen at Rs 45 lakh, installation of library at a cost of Rs 41.26 lakh, waterfall along with signboard and water coolers at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, installation of decorative lights at a cost of Rs 61 lakh and pop up sprinkler system at a cost of Rs 3.90 lakh.

Work on the upgrade of the Rose Garden will be started within two months and now after the approval, the tender will be floated by the MCB.

In 2017, the MCB had earlier planned to have a mini science city at the garden, which could not see the light of day as the MC had also prepared a proposal which was tabled in the General House meeting. A subcommittee under the presidentship of deputy mayor Gurinderpal Kaur Mangat was constituted for this project, but members had no information regarding the subcommittee due to which no meeting was convened on this project. Later, the MCB planned to cancel the project.

It is pertinent to mention that the Rose Garden is the most frequented part of the city and a major tourist attraction for residents of the city and nearby towns as well.

A large number of morning walkers come to the Rose Garden daily. The park is also crowded in the evening as residents bring their children for recreation.

The Rose Garden had been crying for upgrade for a long time. Now, residents are happy that at last the MCB has turned its attention towards this spot.
