Amritsar, February 16

Former Congress leader Mandeep Singh Manna has criticised the Municipal Corporation (MC) for spending Rs 32 lakh on celebrations of Basant wherein a kite flying competition and musical night was organised. “While the work on a portion of Mall road, which caved in around six months ago, has been stalled as the contractor has not been paid dues, public money is being spent on musical nights,” he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Manna claimed that the MC had floated tender for the repair work worth Rs 36 lakh. He threatened that if the work is not resumed within 10 days, he along with city residents would hold kar seva for the repair work.

Notably, a big portion of the road was washed away in September last year after a heavy rain in the area. The MC had later floated tenders. That portion of the road has been lying closed since then due to which traffic jams are frequent.
