Married woman poisoned to death in Malhipur village

A married woman of Malhipur village and mother of a-one-and-half month old daughter was allegedly poisoned to death by her husband and in-laws at Malhipur after which her condition worsened.

She breathed her last at the hospital at Ludhiana where she was referred to from Doraha.

A case has been registered on the complaint of the father of the deceased against her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

Sukhdev Singh of Dhookot, the father of the deceased Sukhpreet Kaur (aged 27 years) alleged that his daughter was married to Sukhdeep Singh of Malhipur near Doraha in December, 2017 and that her husband Sukhdeep Singh and his family had been threatening and harassing his daughter ever since to bring more dowry. They also tried to threaten her parents for not giving enough dowry to her.

The father of the victim told the police that ever since his daughter was married, she was being tortured to bring more dowry. She was not allowed to visit her parents and for the last one year she had never visited her parental house. The husband, along with his father, mother and elder brother began to force her to bring things from her parent’s home.

On May 21, the father of the deceased got a call from her in –laws that she was not in good health and has been hospitalised.

As they reached Doraha the next day, she was referred to Ludhiana where she breathed her last. The father of the deceased alleged that the in-laws of his daughter has poisoned her to death.

A case has been registered against the husband Sukhdeep Singh, father-in-law Sarabjit Singh, mother in law Paramjit kaur and brother in law Babbu at Doraha police station.

The body has been cremated after the police handed it over to the kin after post mortem examination.

According to investigating officer Hardam Singh, “The investigation on the matter was underway and the accused shall be in the police net soon.”
