The Mansa district has been conferred with the national award for best performing district in Poshan Abhiyan for the second consecutive year. Mansa Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait received the award from Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani at a special ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Irani said that Mansa had been conferred this award for implementing Poshan Abhiyan at the grass-root level and fighting against malnutrition. Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, Civil Surgeon Lal Chand Thakral, District Programme Officer Avinash Walia and Swastha Bharat Prerak Aditya Madan received the award.

Last year too, Mansa district was conferred with the same award for successfully implementing nutrition campaign and changing lives of people in a healthier way. Social Security and Women and Children Development Department director Gurpreet K Sapra added that the main motive of Poshan Abhiyan is to put malnutrition to end. She added that the campaign is being run successfully under Union Minister Smriti Irani, whose main motive is to ensure better health for children up to six years of age suffering from low birth weight, lack of nutritious food, lack of physical development and to treat anaemia. Women and children were mainly included under this programme. —TNS
