Jalandhar, February 16
Even as Jalandhar Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh and ex-MP Mahinder Singh Kaypee had ceremoniously made four MC councillors from Bhogpur join the party at a function held at Congress Bhawan last month, they failed to get a team of their choice under Raj Kumar Raja.
Yesterday, as the elections were held, Manju Aggarwal of the other group was announced as the president. The voting went 8-6 in her favour as Akali MLA Pawan Tinu too came in her support.
The elections were held between two groups – one led by Youth Congress leader Ashwin Bhalla and the second by Raja, three-time municipal committee president. The two groups had mixed candidates from SAD and Congress, with none contesting on symbols. While Bhalla group won by seven seats, other trailed with six in the 13-member committee. — OC
