Construction of a link road close to houses between Tapnal and Khauli in Tachadhar panchayat of Mandi district has residents worried. The Public Works Department (PWD) is constructing a link road in the area under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana.
Due to steep cutting for the road, the land has been sliding in the area and posing a threat to nearby houses. The villagers are demanding construction of a retaining wall to check the landslide.
“Since September last year, the PWD has been constructing a link road in the area. In March this year, landslide was reported in the area. Three houses are on the verge of collapse. With the rainy season around the corner, the PWD should construct a retaining wall in time to protect the houses in the area. It will not be easy for us to construct new houses in case of landslide in the area,” Roshan Thakur, a native of Baad village, said.
PWD XEN Janjehli Krishan Kaushal assured of constructing a retaining wall in the area to allay the fears of the residence.
