Man shot at, robbed of Rs 5 lakh

Two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants shot an employee of a money exchange firm in Sector 22 and robbed him of around Rs 5 lakh near the Sector 52/53 roundabout here this evening.

The victim, identified as Naresh Kumar, a resident of Sector 52, was going home on an Activa and carrying cash in a bag when the miscreants intercepted him.

Sources said the accused shot the victim on the thigh, following which he fell on the road. The accused then snatched the bag and sped away. On getting information, police teams rushed to the spot.

The victim, aged around 42, was seriously injured in the attack. He was taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 where he is undergoing treatment. Both the miscreants were wearing helmets. The police said the number of the motorcycle could not be noted down.

“The accused knew that the victim was carrying cash,” said a police official. 

The police said they were working on a few leads, adding that they would scrutinise the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the office of the firm in Sector 22.

Meanwhile, a case of robbery and attempt to murder has been registered against unknown persons at the Sector 36 police station.
