Man posing as IG held in Bathinda

BATHINDA: The police arrested a man on Friday who was allegedly impersonating as an IG (Investigation) from Lehra Mohabbat village.

The police arrested a man on Friday who was allegedly impersonating as an IG (Investigation) from Lehra Mohabbat village. They have registered an FIR against the accused under Sections 419 and 420 of the IPC.

The accused has been identified as Amrinder Singh, is a resident of Daraj village, Barnala, who would impersonate as IG Shiv Kumar Verma and extort money from people.

Police officials acted on a complaint filed by Bhola Singh, a resident of Kamalu Swatch village, who was allegedly duped of Rs 6 lakh by the accused.

Gopal Singh, DSP, Bhucho Mandi, said, “Amrinder Singh used to impersonate as an IG of a human rights organisation. The accused would reach out to people and dupe them in the name of a providing them an ID card of the organisation.” The police said the accused would visit different villages, meet residents and promise to resolve their pending cases registered in the police department.
