Man held on charge of raping woman, keeping her captive

The Kapurthala police have arrested a man for raping a woman multiple times and also for keeping her captive for three days at a house.

The woman, a resident of the Lakhan Khole village in Kapurthala, in her complaint to the police said an acquaintance of her father raped her several times before and after her marriage and kept her captive. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the matter.

A case under Sections 376, 392 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. The victim said Kuldeep Singh, her father’s friend, was a regular visitor to her home in Boota village.

She said Kuldeep arranged her wedding with a resident of Lakhan Khola village in 2017. She said later, when her parents began preparations for the wedding, Kuldeep used to visit her home in the absence of her parents.

She said he threatened to break her wedding ties and violated her in her room.

She said after her wedding, Kuldeep continued to rape her several times by drugging her husband.

She said on 23 July, 2018, Kuldeep came to her in-laws’ house. While making an excuse that her mother was ill, he took her along with him. Later, he held her captive at a house and raped her several times.

The girl said she somehow escaped the clutches of the accused and reached her parents’ home. However, her in-laws did not come to take her. She said later, she lodged a complaint with the police.

Kotwali police station SHO Hargurdev Singh said when he probed the matter, all charges against Kuldeep were found to be true.

The accused will be presented in a court on Sunday.
