A 60-year-old man hacked his wife and two granddaughters to death before he hanged himself from a tree outside his house at Tarwara, a village in Rajasthan’s Jalore district, in the early hours of Monday, police said.
It’s unclear what caused Tararam Meghwal to pick up an axe to kill his 57-year-old wife Sukhi Devi and granddaughters, Monika, 6, and Kavita, 4, before killing himself, Additional SP Jalore Satyendra Pal Singh told The Tribune.
Meghwal’s farmer son—the complainant in the case—said he slept at their farm and his wife was asleep in another room, the officer said
Bhadrajun Thana Head Constable Mangilal said Meghwal was “deeply disturbed” and was taking medicines.
He however dismissed questions of this being a case of suicide over farm debt—a cause that has taken the lives of several farmers lives across the country.
Police have registered multiple murders under section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
