A 40-year-old rickshaw-puller, Sinder Pal, who had allegedly shoved his 16-year-old daughter’s face on a burning gas stove, has been sentenced to eight-year imprisonment. The victim, Sanjana, then a Class X student, received burns on her neck and her hair was also burnt. She stated that her father was drunk at that time.

The incident pertains to April 11 when the Mauli Jagran police station rushed to a house in Sector 37 after a call was received that a man had tried to burn his daughter. The call had been made by Women and Child Helpline, which had arrived after the victim had called it. The girl was taken to the GMSH, Sector 16, and the father was arrested.

Sanjana told the police that she lived with her parents and brother. On the fateful night, around 9 pm, her father arrived home in an inebriated condition while she was making dinner in the kitchen. He asked her to make a “parantha”. She told him that she was preparing dinner for her brother and mother and would make the “parantha” after that.

Sinder Pal left, but returned and hit the girl. He then held her from behind and shoved her face on top of a burning flame on the stove.
