Man gets 7-yr RI for causing death of cop

LUDHIANA: The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Balwinder Kumar has convicted Karanvir Singh, a resident of Pink Flats, near MBD Mall, of causing death of a constable, Manish Kumar.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Balwinder Kumar has convicted Karanvir Singh, a resident of Pink Flats, near MBD Mall, of causing death of a constable, Manish Kumar. He has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for seven years.

The constable was killed and his three colleagues were injured after Karanvir rammed into two vehicles at a naka. Head Constables Gurjant Singh and Kuldeep Singh, and constable Jaspal Singh were admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.

Karanvir was reportedly heavily drunk when he rammed his car into two vehicles being checked by the police at the naka. Manish died on the spot.

A case was registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC on August 13, 2013, at the Sarabha Nagar police station on a complaint of Inspector Harpal Singh.
