Man gets 7-year jail for murder attempt

Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Chauhan on Wednesday sentenced a Nepalese youth to seven-year simple imprisonment in a case of attempt to murder. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict.

According to Deputy District Attorney Hemant Chaudhary, the victim, Manoj Kumar, had employed Arjun Singh, the accused, for beekeeping at Ghangughat in Arki area of the district. They stayed together in a tent for nearly six months.

On the intervening night of June 5 and 6, 2015, Arjun started quarrelling with Manoj on some trivial issue and hit him on his head with an iron rod which injured him grievously. Manoj was taken to Civil Hospital at Arki in an unconscious state where he was given preliminary treatment and then referred to Chandigarh. He remained hospitalised for nearly two months.

A complaint was lodged with the police by Manoj’s uncle in this regared and the police later arrested Arjun.
