High drama was witnessed after the death of a male patient at a private hospital near Football Chowk here early this morning after his family members claimed medical negligence.

According to the family, Vijay Kumar, alias Sonu, a resident of Basti Sheikh, was brought to the hospital 12 days ago. He was diagnosed with brain tumour and underwent a treatment. The family members alleged that a doctor from the hospital told them that the operation was successful and there was nothing to worry as the patient was fine.

The deceased was discharged about two days ago and the family members said while they were returning home, his health again got deteriorated and he fell unconscious, due to which they again took him to the hospital. However, the doctors after examining him said he was fine.

The family members said in the wee hours today Vijay breathed his last.

Agitated over his demise, the kin of the deceased alleged negligence by the hospital staff and gathered around the hospital this morning.

They demanded registration of a case against doctors and hospital staff, who, as per them, acted irresponsibly while treating the patient.

On the other hand, Inspector, Division No 2 police station, Manmohan Singh, said there was a minor dispute outside the hospital between the family and hospital staff. Later, the family was briefed about the condition of the patient and the matter was resolved.
