A 16-year-old girl belonging to a poor family was allegedly raped by a youth of her locality in Moga city.

The victim’s parents are physically disabled and have five daughters. She is the youngest among five and is a Class X student in a local school. The victim’s father alleged that the youth identified as Kulwant Singh of Hargobind Nagar Colony had been harassing his daughter for the past many months. On Tuesday, when he and his wife were not at home, the accused forcibly entered their house and allegedly abducted his daughter.

After a few hours, the youth and the girl were found on the premises of the Dera Sacha Sauda on the Moga bypass. The girl told her parents that she was raped by the youth.

A case under Sections 376 and 354 of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused.
