After reports of harassment of inmates in Deoria in UP and Muzaffarpur in Bihar, the Haryana Mahila Congress has started social audit of shelter homes in the state.

This was disclosed by Haryana Mahila Congress in charge Anupama Rawat, state Mahila Congress president Sumitra Chauhan and state Mahila Congress senior vice-president Kamal Mann during a press conference here on Tuesday.

Sumitra said that on the call of Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Congress, they visited a shelter home at Rai in Sonepat district on Tuesday and interacted with 40 girls out of 130 inmates and also with staff members. “We found everything satisfactory and I congratulated the state government for this,” she said.

“Our team members will visit each and every shelter home in their respective district every month and we will meet the Chief Minister and the Governor if anything found objectionable in any of the shelter homes,” she said.

Anupama said that they had started social audit from Tuesday and soon it would be a mass movement.

Earlier, a meeting of the state Mahila Congress officer-bearers was held on the issue of crime against women, social audit of shelter homes and spreading awareness about the recently launched Shakti women app by Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Kamal, who is in charge the app in the state, said that they had fixed a target to connect 2 lakh women with this app and so far, they had achieved half of the target.
