Ludhiana MLA Simarjit Singh Bains on Monday, reached Guru Nanak Dev University, and criticised the institution for its policies, especially the re-evaluation process and “exorbitant” charges in the name of golden chances. The university refuted the allegations.

Simarjit Singh Bains was accompanied by a student, who had doubts in his re-evaluation for his political science examination in graduation. “The student got his answer sheets through RTI after his marks increased from zero to 13 after the re-evaluation process. I have personally got his answer sheet checked from two professors from Ludhiana. The marks should have been more. The teachers checking the paper must be held responsiblie for re-evaluations,” he said.

“The GNDU has been charging a lot of money. The golden chance can be availed after paying Rs 25,000. I shall be taking up the issue in Punjab Vidhan Sabha after meeting officials from other state university,” he added.

Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academics, refuted the allegations. “As per the rules, any student can go for re-evaluation process. We had a meeting with Simarjit Singh Bains. The result of the candidate will not be changed, but we will carry a process to get into the matter at our level. The marks given by a teacher is a subjective matter. The golden chance is in accordance with the orders of the High Court. We are following the rules. We have communicated all the aspects,” he added.
