Loan waiver for 2,700 farmers

As many as 2700 farmers of Ahmedgarh and Raikot subdivisions were presented loan waiver certificates worth Rs 19.51 crore during functions held at these towns.

Ahmedgarh SDM Dr Poonam Preet Kaur and Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta presided over functions at their respective subdivisions while MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman and vice-president of the PPCC, Dr Amar Singh Boparai, were chief guests at these events.

Both functions were held as part of the third phase of the flagship farm crop loan waiver scheme of the Punjab Government during which loans of 1,525 beneficiaries from Ahmedgarh (worth Rs 10.20 crore) were waived.

Similarly, 1,176 farmers from various villages of Raikot Assembly segment were handed over waiver certificates worth Rs 9.31 crore.

Legislator Surjit Singh Dhiman and Congress leader Dr Amar Singh Boparai said Capt Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Government was committed to the welfare of all sections of society, including farmers, labourers, traders and employees.

They called upon residents of their respective regions for support to the state government regarding carrying out the overall development.

The speakers announced that soon, loans of landless farm workers belonging to the scheduled caste community would also be waived by the government.
