Liquor sale fetches Rs 30 lakh for Una local urban bodies

Panchayats and local urban bodies of Una district will earn about Rs 30 lakh as cess on the excise duty collected from the sale of liquor for the last financial year. 

At a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Prajapati, the Excise and Taxation Department disclosed that the share of cess for urban bodies was Rs 13.22 lakh, while panchayats would be allocated Rs 16.65 lakh as sale proceeds from the liquor vends in their areas.

The DC said a cess of Rs 2 was collected for every bottle of liquor sold in urban areas, while the amount of cess in rural areas was Re 1 per bottle. Consequently, he said Rs 29,87,597 was collected as cess during 2017-18. 

Prajapati said 80 per cent of the funds were disbursed to the local bodies in which vends were located, while the remaining 20 per cent was disbursed to local bodies without liquor vends. In the financial year, an additional Re 1 per bottle cess would be collected per bottle, which would be used for protecting and propagating cows.
