Lightning strikes house in Mohali

Two families had a narrow escape as lightning struck a house in Phase I, Mohali, this morning. However, the ceiling, walls, electrical wires and other household appliances were damaged.

The owner of the house, Baljinder Singh, while narrating the horrifying experience, said the lightning struck at 7.45 am, damaging property, internal wiring and appliances. He said he was standing outside his house, watching the thundery development in the sky when suddenly he saw a flash of light followed by a deafening sound. However, he did not know that lightning had struck his house.

Baljinder said he and his family members had just come out of the house after waking up in the morning to watch the thundery development. He said they heard a deafening sound of thunder. A few minutes later, he entered the house and found it damaged. He said the plaster of his house had peeled off at some places and the internal wiring had completely burnt.

Baljinder said the inverter and mobile chargers of his tenants had also got damaged. He said later he found that the parapet and the ceiling of his house had also got damaged. — TNS
