The court of Additional Sessions Judge Jagdeep Kaur Virk has convicted Ashok Kumar of Jeewan Nagar, Ludhiana, on the charge of raping a neighbour’s minor girl. He was ordered to undergo rigorous life imprisonment.
A fine of Rs1 lakh was also imposed on the accused. Out of the fine amount, Rs 50,000 would be paid to the victim as compensation. Divulging the details, special public prosecutor BD Gupta said a case was registered against the accused at Division No 7 police station, following the complaint of victim’s father.
The complainant submitted to the police that their pet entered the house of the accused. His daughter went inside to get it back. In the meanwhile, the accused bolted the door and forcibly raped her. They were not at home when the incident took place. The victim narrated the entire incident to her aunt, who informed them. Thereafter, the accused was apprehended and handed over to the police.
However, during trial, the accused pleaded innocence, but after appreciating the evidence on record the court found him guilty.
