A good flooring, adequate lighting, use of rich fabric like velvet, brocade, gleaming accessories are some elements that can give a touch of opulence to the decor of your house. Here are some handy tips:

Create a clutter-free space

This is one of the cheapest ways to achieve a visually appealing and luxurious space that works for both compact and spacious homes. Make sure that your home is well-organised and has limited furniture so that the house looks  spacious and gives a clutter-free look.

An Italian soiree

Nothing beats the beauty of Italian marble as the mirror-finish polish and natural grains of Italian marble gives the home a high-end luxurious look. It is recommended to go in for an Italian marble flooring throughout the house or introduce it in small doses in the form of countertops or tabletops. One drawback of using Italian marble is that it is prone to cracks and should be periodically polished to retain its shine.

Light it right

Perfect lighting is the key to achieve a luxurious look. This can be done by combining direct lighting and recessed lighting. Direct lighting can be incorporated in the form of ceiling lights, bracket lights, pendant lights and table lamps. In recessed lighting, the source of illumination is hidden and diffused lighting is used to highlight the walls, ceiling and niches to create a relaxed ambience.

Charm of crystal

Install a crystal chandelier to bring in an element of grandeur and formality into any space. The best part of a crystal chandelier is that it gives an extraordinary look and instantly lifts the overall decor. Crystal chandeliers, however, attract lot of dirt and should be periodically cleaned.

Accessorise with metallic finishes

Introduce metallic finishes in gold and silver for an expensive look. These finishes can be used in unique art pieces on the walls,  tables or within niches. One can also introduce hues of gold or silver in furnishing like sofa upholstery, throw cushions, curtains, etc.

Fabric that exudes opulence

Use rich fabric like velvet, brocade or jacquard for sofa upholstery and throw cushions. Go for deep colours like red, maroon, majenta, turquoise blue, etc. Weave the space together with rich textured rugs or silk carpets.

Shift to a modular kitchen

The new-age homes are incomplete without a modular kitchen. Modular kitchens are factory manufactured, efficient and available in a variety of designs and finishes. Since a modular kitchen is factory manufactured, the finish and overall look of a modular kitchen is aesthetically better compared to a carpenter-made kitchen.

Statement pieces

Bring in exclusive pieces of ornamental furniture, leather furniture, chaise lounges, armchairs and integrate these with the decor of the house. Statement pieces of furniture make the house appear  more expensive and give it a tasteful look.

Classy wall accents

Wall accents create an interesting feature and are a great way to give a well-designed look to the house. The best way to create a wall accent is with coloured wall paint, wallpaper, photo frames, wooden panelling and stone or tile cladding, etc.

Dress the windows

Dress the windows with curtains, draperies and blinds in rich fabric that matches and complements the rest of the space. Add sheer curtains as these brighten up the space. Finish the curtains with fringes, tassels, trimmings for a formal look.
