Teenage shooter Lakshay Sheoran has hit the target in his very first Asian Games by winning the silver medal in men’s trap event at the Asian Games.

His parents are hardly surprised as they say his recent performance at national and international events were promising.

“I was sure that my son will spring a surprise, though I was expecting gold,” said Lakshay’s father Sombir Sheoran, a trader.

“He missed a few shots in the initial stage. Lakshay was probably the youngest player in the category and he has proved his capability. He will soon start focusing on the Olympics,” said the proud father.

Lakshay has won medals in the Junior Asian Shooting Championship held last year, Junior World Cup and national-level championships held in the past four years.

He is a student of BA-I in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He took to shooting when he was a student in Jind.

The family, a native of Jind, had shifted here last year to facilitate proper training and practice facilities for Lakshay (19) as Jind lacked state-of-the-art infrastructure.

His mother Promila said her son had made the family a celebrity. “Congratulatory messages have been pouring in ever since the media broke the news of his win,” she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted, ‘”Young Lakshay Sheoran had brought smiles on the faces of every Indian. I congratulate him on winning of the silver medal in the men’s trap shooting event at the Asian Games 2018.”
