Detroit, June 29

Anirban Lahiri has made the cut with a fine show on the front nine, ending the day at 4-under 68 to be tied-33rd at the halfway stage of the Rocket Mortgage Classic here.

Lahiri, who had five birdies on the front nine, had one more on the back nine, but he also missed some short putts for two bogeys.  He is now 7-under 135 and tied-33rd.

The weather was partly cloudy with temperatures in high 90s and the wind was gentle 5-10 mph and 71 players made the cut at 5-under 139.

Even as Cameron Champ (66-65) played one of the best stretches on the PGA Tour this season for an 8-under 28 with six birdies and an eagle, overnight leader, Nate Lashley (63-67) kept the 36-hole lead by one shot. Though the scoring has been rather low, some big names Dustin Johnson (71-71) and U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland (72-69) finished at 2-under to miss the cut by three strokes.   Also missing out were Chez Reavie (65-78), winner of the Travelers Championship last week, and Bubba Watson (68-75).

Bhullar up to sixth Spain

India's Gaganjeet Bhullar shot an even par-71 and moved to T-6th in the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation here.

Bhullar, who shot 68 in the first round, was 3-under for 36 holes but five behind leader, South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who mastered the tougher conditions during second round to take a huge four-shot lead.

The only other Indian to make the cut was Shiv Kapur, who shot 74-70. At one stage tenth-tee starter Kapur was 3-under for second day and even par for tournament but he bogeyed third and seventh. He needed to ensure pars on last two holes to stay on for the weekend and he did. As the wind picked up and in the afternoon, Kapur did well to play 1-under 70 to make the cut.

S S P Chawrasia (74-73) and Shubhankar Sharma (79-77) missed the cut. Sharma was playing after a short break, while Chawrasia has missed seven cuts in 13 starts this year on Asian and European Tour events.

Superb start by Aditi

Aditi Ashok made her best start of the season with a  bogey-free 5-under 67 to be tied-13th on the first day of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. In a season, where she has not been able to find her form, Aditi is now four behind the first round leader, Inbee Park, who  shot a 9-under 62. — PTI
