Srinagar, January 17

A group of women on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar’s old city against the detention of their kin.

The women protested at Rajouri Kadal in the old city and demanded the release of their family members.

“Our children were arrested in November by the police and now, we are hearing that they have been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). We seek their immediate release,” the women said.

The protesters also blocked the road against the alleged handing over of the youth to the NIA.

The J&K Police had made some arrests from Srinagar in November who were allegedly linked with an Islamic State-inspired module. The police had registered a case and subsequently, it was taken over by the NIA.
