Shimla, October 19
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday celebrated Vijayadashami at Jakhu temple by burning the effigy of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhakarna.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the festival symbolised the victory of good (dharma) over evil (adharma). He urged the people to work collectively to kill the demon of drug abuse from society.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of a religious museum at the Jakhu temple complex, besides performing puja, at the temple. He was honoured by the temple committee on the occasion.
Dr Sadhna Thakur, wife of the Chief Minister, Narinder Bragta, MLA, Ganesh Dutt, Chairman, Milkfed, BK Agarwal, Chief Secretary, Kusum Sadrate, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Shimla, Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Mayor, Sanjeevan, RSS prant pracharak, Payal Vaidya, General Secretary, Child Welfare Council, Amit Kashyap, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla and Omapati Jamwal, SP, were also present on the occasion.
Effigies of Ravana were burnt at several places to mark Dasehra. A 65-ft high Ravana was burnt at Kanlog. Additional 150 police personnel were deployed at various locations for security.
