Kharar, August 28

Palwinder Singh, (20), a resident of Kharar, drowned in a lake in Canada on August 21.

His father Ranjodh Singh, who resides near Government Polytechnic College, Khuni Majra, said his son went to Canada in November 2018 after Class XII. He, along with his friends, went on a trip to Sylvan Lake there.

According to the family, he and his friend had gone onto the lake on two inflatable mattresses around 3.30 pm last Wednesday, while the rest were having a barbecue on the grass near the shore.

Palwinder and his friend were floating when the latter’s air mattress was overturned by a wave. His friend was pulled out of waters, but Palwinder could not be saved.

His family said he had planned to attend NorQuest College in Edmonton as a full-time accounting student next month. The family got the news of his death on phone on August 22. The family is expecting the body to arrive by Monday.
