Bathinda, January 7

Teachers from Government Khalsa Senior Secondary School staged a protest outside the branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce in Kikar Bazaar for reportedly not receiving their salaries for the past 10 months.

Members of the Aided School Union Mann Singh, principal of school Charanjit Kaur, Kamlesh Kumari and Chinderpal Kaur among other teachers participated in the protest.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Mann Singh said, “The school concerned is running under the Khalsa Diwan Gurdwara and there is a rift between old and new committee members due to which we have not received salaries for past 10 months. Without getting salary for a long time, it has become difficult to bear household expenses now.”

Mann added, “Salaries of 21 teachers are pending for 10 months. As much as 95 per cent share of the salary is given by the government, but the manager of OBC Bank is deliberately harassing us.”

When contacted, Puneet Garg, branch manager of OBC Bank, said, “We have blocked the salaries to save the bank from any controversial situation that may arise due to the fight between the management of the school.”

Later, the teachers called off the protest after they agreed to give an affidavit to the bank stating that if after releasing the salary the bank or teachers face any problem then they would return the salary.
