New Delhi, April 20

Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had deliberately thwarted the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

He said the scheme was aimed at giving affordable housing to the economically weaker sections of society. “The poor dwellers of 675 JJ clusters in Delhi have been denied the opportunity to have their own house under the PMAY. The CM is acting out of political malice,” he said.

Gupta said Kejriwal sought one or the other excuse to defer the PMAY so that the credit did not go to the Prime Minister. “This is despite that the Delhi Government’s Urban Shelter Improvement Board was appointed as the nodal agency. The Delhi Government delayed the signing of an MOU for implementation of the scheme,” he said.

He said the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation was to provide 34,260 flats in Narela, Bawana, Bhor Gar, Ghoga, and Baprola and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board was to develop 18,084 houses in Dwarka, Sultanpuri, Jahangirpuri and Sawda Ghewra. The Municipal Corporation was to develop 240 houses. All these houses were to be allotted by the Delhi Government during the past six years. “However, the houses have not been allotted and their condition is deteriorating. Anti-social elements are committing theft of doors, windows and fittings. The fund marked for their maintenance is going in vain,” he said.
