State AAP president Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the government should fulfil the promises it made to the people of the state ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections, especially the promise of providing electricity at affordable rates.
In a letter to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Mann said the state government had “failed to” measure up to the aspirations of the people. “What to speak of taking a call on the reduction of the existing rate, it was hiked four times during the government’s two-year term,” he said. Mann pointed out that the state was mulling jacking up the rate further.
In the letter he said despite the fact that the state government had ample resources and infrastructure for power generation, the electricity rate was much higher when compared to other states, which was pegged at Rs 10 per unit.
On the other hand, the letter claimed that the Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi, which had not enough resources of its own, had been providing electricity to the people at Re 1 per unit.
