Jalandhar, October 6

Former Congress MP Mahinder Singh Kaypee said today that he wanted the state government to come to the aid of nearly 1 lakh families across the state, who have sent their children to Canada and have now suffered a setback due to the soaring price of the dollar.

Recently returned from Canada, Kaypee said almost every family was now facing an additional burden of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 on account of the increased value difference between the rupee and the Canadian dollar.

“All these families have taken bank loans and sent their children abroad. There are no jobs in the country and the children remain dependent on their parents for years for financial aid. As a result, they are all in a major trouble. I hope that the government come to their relief in the form of loan concessions etc,” he said. Over the issue of a SAD rally on the Bargari incident in Patiala tomorrow, he said: “The SAD is using the resources of the SGPC for langar. This is a sheer misuse of the funds of the Sikh body which can be used for langar but not to feed SAD workers. I am also appalled at the plight of our 93-year-old former CM Parkash Singh Badal who has been forced to go from village to village to request people to attend his rally which should ideally be named ‘Save Sukhbir rally’.

Increased from Rs 51 to Rs 57
