Arpit bowls Chandigarh to victory

CHANDIGARH:Arpit Singh claimed a six-for as Chandigarh registered an innings and 159-run win against Ropar on the second and final day of their second-leg match in the Punjab Inter-District Tournament for Katoch Shield at the Sector 16 Stadium here on Monday.

Arpit Singh claimed a six-for as Chandigarh registered an innings and 159-run win against Ropar on the second and final day of their second-leg match in the Punjab Inter-District Tournament for Katoch Shield at the Sector 16 Stadium here on Monday. 

Trailing the hosts by 299 runs, Ropar in their second innings were bowled out for 140 runs as Arpit Singh spun a web around the visiting batsmen. The leg-spinner returned with figures of 6/46, which included a hat-trick.   

Earlier, resuming the day at 371/5, Chandigarh declared their first innings closed at 407/6.  

Talwinder Singh who was batting on 88 yesterday went on to complete his century before the declaration. Talwinder scored an unbeaten 101-ball 107, which included 14 boundaries and three sixes.  

For the visitors, Simran Pal claimed 3/86, while Charanjit took 2/84. 

Amritsar rout Nawanshahr

At Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar, Vinay Chaudhary and Rohit Gulati shared seven wickets between them as the hosts beat Nawanshahr by an innings and 146 runs.  

Trailing Amritsar by 284 runs, Nawanshahr were all out for 138 runs in their second innings. Left-arm spinner Chaudhary claimed 4/56, while Gulati picked 3/ 25. 

Opener Prashant Alahawat scored a patient 47 but could not save the visitors from the ignominy of an innings defeat.  

3 points for Patiala

In another match, hosts Ludhiana held Patiala to a draw at the GRA Academy grounds.  

Replying to Patiala’s first innings total of 378, Ludhiana were bowled out for 263 in 87 overs.  

Gurjot Singh and Sunny Pandey put on 82 runs for the opening wicket. The duo was separated when Pandey fell to Tejpreet on 37. Gurjot made a sedate 70. Dipin Chitkara remained unbeaten on 83. 

For Patiala, left-arm spinner Karan Kaila took 4/61, while leg-spinner Tejpreet Singh bagged 3/95. Off-spinner Akul Partap Pandove returned with figures of 2/65. 

Patiala though got three points from the match on the basis of their first innings lead of 115 runs. The hosts added one point to their tally.

Mohali finish on top

Meanwhile, Sachin Sohal and Ramandeep Singh hit a century each to help the hosts Mohali gain a small but crucial nine-run lead over Jalandhar at the PCA Stadium and earn three points.    

Chasing a Jalandhar’s first innings total of 449, Mohali closed the match at 458/5 with Sohal hitting 158 off 181 balls and Ramandeep cracking an unbeaten 134-ball 100. 

Abhijeet Garg scored 59 runs and together with Sohal put up a solid 138-run opening stand for the hosts. Skipper Gurkeerat Mann played a small cameo of 34 runs off 27 balls, while Harpreet Brar remained not out on 41.
