Kathua teacher to get national award today

KATHUA: Kathua district has once again attained the distinction of making it to the list of teachers getting a national award with one of its ‘best and dedicated’ tutors selected for the honour.

Kathua district has once again attained the distinction of making it to the list of teachers getting a national award with one of its ‘best and dedicated’ tutors selected for the honour.

Gurnam Singh, a teacher posted at Government Upper Primary School in Lahari, Barnoti area of the district, will receive the national award at a ceremony in New Delhi on Thursday.

The 50-year-old, who belongs to the Jasrota area of Rajbagh in Kathua, has been in into teaching for the past 27 years and is presently serving as a master.

“I was appointed in the department in 1992. Till date, I have given 100 per cent result up to Class 8,” an elated Gurnam Singh said, adding that he always ensured that national days like Republic Day and Independence Day were celebrated with enthusiasm in schools located in far-flung areas.

“I always strived to improve the infrastructure, be it offices or classrooms. I also tried to make smart classrooms. As a resource person, I have trained over 1,000 teachers in Barnoti,” he said.

Pertinently, teachers of Kathua district have a distinction of winning nationals awards. The teachers who have been awarded for their dedicated services include Santosh Khajuria, Aruna Sharma, Sushma Sharma and Thakur Khajoor Singh.
