As part of the two-day countrywide strike, hundreds of activists of various trade unions of Kashmir on Wednesday protested against what they termed as the BJP government’s “anti-labour” policies.
The activists holding flags assembled at Pratap Park here and raised slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government.
“The Modi government’s report card for the past almost five years is in front of the public and there are only failures. Some of the big failures of the Modi government have been demonetisation, betrayal with farmers, questionable rewriting of the Rafale deal, weakening of institutions, cultivation of hate and unemployment,” said Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, state president, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).
“The policies pursued by the Modi government have just been hollow promises for toiling the masses and largesse for the rich and corporate. The Modi government is for Ambanis, Adhanis and others like them, while the poor have been at the receiving end,” Tarigami added.
As part of the ‘Achhe Din’ campaign in 2014, he said Modi had made a commitment to provide 10 crore jobs in five years. “By the time of the completion of the four years of the Modi government in May 2018, it became evident to the youth of the country that this was another fairytale. The demonetisation tsunami demolished even the jobs that were there before,” he said.
